Rob Wijnberg (1982) is the founding editor of The Correspondent. Before founding this platform for unbreaking news, Rob served as the editor-in-chief of nrc.next, the morning edition of NRC Handelsblad, one of Netherlands' premier daily national newspapers. At the age of 27, he was the youngest editor-in-chief in Europe ever to lead a national print newspaper.

Targeting a young, highly educated audience, under Rob's guidance nrc.next reached a paid circulation of over 80,000 and a daily reach of 375,000, making it the most successful among new newspapers in Europe.

With his specific and outspoken views on the role of news in modern society, published in numerous columns and articles and several books, Rob attracted a large and dedicated following. This support helped him to put his ideas in to practice by founding De Correspondent, where he currently is the founding editor.

In 2019, Rob Wijnberg successfully launched the international expansion of this Dutch journalism platform, with w world record breaking crowdfunding campaign for The Correspondent. With backing from renowned ambassadors like Jay Rosen, Nate Silver and Rosanne Cash, the campaign managed to raise $2.6m from 45.888 founding members in over 130 countries. De Correspondent currently has over 62.000 members, The Correspondents has 50.000 members.
